Conference 2016 Information
DUNEDIN 14-16 NOVEMBER 2016
We are very excited about the 2016 conference, which was held in the beautiful Otago Museum, 15 minutes walk from the centre of Dunedin.
This year’s conference ran over two and half days, and showcased the best in science communication practice and research, both from New Zealand and abroad.
Aside from our main theme, this year we also had two special streams, one on Science and Art, and one on Participatory and Citizen Science.
KEYNOTES 2016
DR POPPY LAKEMAN FRASER
Poppy is the Senior Programme Coordinator for the Open Air Laboratories (OPAL) initiative, a citizen science partnership based in the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London.
OPAL network, established in 2007 and led by Imperial College London, is a UK-wide partnership initiative that inspires communities to discover, enjoy and protect their local environments through citizen science-based activities.
DR RICHARD HOLLIMAN @SCIENCE_ENGAGE
Richard is Professor of Engaged Research at the Open University, UK. Through his teaching and engaged research he explores relationships between academic researchers and non-academic stakeholders. He is particularly interested in the interplay between digital technologies and different forms of knowledge and expertise, and how the practises of engagement shape and frame contemporary research. DR JENNY ROCK
Jenny is a Lecturer in Science Communication at the University of Otago. She is interested in the aesthetics of science, including how aesthetics co-create science and how they can be integrated into fostering a better science and society interaction. She thinks that when we recognise more of the common ground between science and "other" (art, humanities etc) then we can begin to recast science as the human enterprise that it is. And, in so doing, make science more inclusive, interactive and engaging.
